Architect/Planner with over 40 years practice experience spanning the public, private and educational sectors.

Senior positions in public and private sector planning including over 10 years as Assistant Director with Newcastle City Council (running design and conservation services for Newcastle City and specialist conservation services for the five former Tyne and Wear Districts) and over 10 years as Urban Design Director of Ryder (a large national architectural practice rooted in the North East)

Over 10 years as one of the leading practice contributors to the work of the former Government's Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment as its North East Regional representative, an Enabler and a founder member of its' national Planning Advisory Committee. Currently Built Environment Expert with CABE at the Design Council and a Member of the Joint Design Council /Oxford City Council Design Review Panel.

Visiting Professor and Lecturer at the Bartlett School of Planning at University College London and Visiting Professor of Practice in Newcastle University's School of Architecture Planning and Landscape.

Invited by Boris Johnson to be the only non-London based member of his 16 person Mayor's Design Advisory Group through to the end of his term of office in 2016.

One of 3 Independent Members of the Planning Committee for the Old Oak/Park Royal London Mayoral Development Corporation.

Dean and Chapter appointed Member of Durham Cathedral Fabric Advisory Committee.
