Planning Aid England (PAE) in the North East: Update
Calling all existing and prospective Planning Aid England Volunteers!
Despite a relatively quiet year here in the North East, Planning Aid England is alive and well and the Task Group for PAE in the NE are currently working to shape and grow PAE volunteer activity across the region. Our focus is on developing outreach opportunities, working particularly in areas of deprivation, to enable local communities to engage with the planning system and participate in shaping their local environments.
We have recently had productive meetings with staff from Newcastle University who are involved with Digital Civics, a research programme, which has been rolling out a number of innovative IT apps to bring communities in touch with planning and other local issues. This will provide accessible and exciting ways for people to develop ideas for their local area.
We are currently developing ideas for PAE to help communities in the wider region and will soon be calling upon volunteers to help with these. We recognise that PAE volunteers lead busy lives working or/and studying, but any time that you are able to give will be of benefit to you (in terms of your CPD) as well as the communities you are helping.
We are keen to hear from current (and prospective) PAE volunteers regarding local opportunities where PAE in the NE may be able offer support, for example with a local plan consultation or for a neighbourhood planning group in a deprived area. And if you are keen to help develop and steer our work across the region, we would also welcome your involvement in the regional Task Group,
