Chris Anderson was announced as the winner of the 2012 RTPI NE Planning Leaders
Award at the Regional Dinner in Newcastle on 5 October, where he was presented with acommemorative certificate by RTPI President Colin Haylock.
Planning Leaders Awards celebrate members who are leading and inspiring the profession and helping to create the places of tomorrow. Chris Anderson’s particular contribution has been in the field of community and neighbourhood planning.Whilst working for Planning Aid for several years, latterly as one of the national community outreach coordinators, Chris has been innovative in his approach to bringing communities into the planning process, developing new ideas and new resources which the planning aid service has been able to take forward and which have now been developed into national tools for neighbour hood planning.
More recently Chris has established his own community planning company, Plangle (community planning from a different angle), in which capacity he has been working with Alnwick Town Council and other community groups, and has once again linked up with Planning Aid England to deliver neighbourhood planning training and support.
Chris graduated from Newcastle University in 2001, and worked with South Tyneside Council, Nexus and the Countryside Agency, including a spell at the Great North Forest, before joining Planning Aid. His entry for the Planning Leaders Award was strongly supported by RTPI NE’s Regional Management Board and in particular by Jonathan Nicholson.
