Bobbie Bailey, President of the Newcastle University Planning Society, was one of around 60 students who attended this year's Planning Careers Fair, held at Newcastle University's Research Beehive on 6 February. After an introduction by Tim Townshend, Director of Planning and Urban Design at the University, the main speaker was Richard Newsome, Principal Planner at GVA Property Consultancy and Junior Vice-Chair of RTPI NE, who gave an introduction to the RTPI Assessment of Professional Competency. Employers supporting the event included Sunderland Council, GVA, the Environment Agency, NLP and Fairhurst's. Kay Lough and Chris Clarke, who attended the event on behalf of RTPI NE, would be interested to receive any feedback from attendees (or others who were unable to attend), so that any similar event planned for next year can fully meet the requirements of both students and employers.
