Careers Event

60 Newcastle University students and 9 employers attended the RTPI NE/Newcastle University Careers Fair at the Universitys Research Beehive on 8 February. Despite guest speaker Brian OCallaghans misfortunes on the railway (his train was delayed by nearly 1½ hours by an incident on the line at Biggleswade) the event went very well, thanks to the excellent support from employers at a difficult time for everyone, and the sterling efforts of Anne Fry of the University, who made most of the arrangements.

Brian OCallaghan, the RTPIs Head of Education and Lifelong Learning, outlined the benefits of RTPI Membership and the APC procedures, usefully complemented by RTPI NE Chair Joe Ridgeons relatively recent experience of the system.

Then it was the turn of the employers, the Environment Agency, Fairhurst, Sita, Indigo, Banks, Northumberland, Sunderland, NLP and National Grid, and RTPI NE, all of whom had stands to answer individual questions and advise the students on the current job market.
