Aims: This is an exciting, albeit challenging, time for planning and planners in England. The new coalition Government has embarked on a radical programme of reform of the planning system, including abolishing Regional Spatial Strategies and promising to do the same to the infrastructure Planning Commission.  This RTPI North East event will start to explore the implications for local authorities and communities of these changes and the likely changes to come, including the forthcoming Open Source planning system.  It offers the opportunity to hear about the changes from those involved and to discuss practical ways forward for public and private sector planners, covering both policy and development management issues.
