Celebrate planners & planning every 8 November
Founded by Prof. Carlos María della Paolera in Buenos Aires in 1949, World Town Planning Day is now celebrated all over the world every 8th November. Planners from over 30 countries celebrate their achievements in helping to create more sustainable communities and places. Celebrations include evening lectures, school children's competitions, fund raising and charity events, planning awards and even street festivals.
The RTPI is actively involved. Our nations and regions put on events, our accredited universities host lectures. See below this year's programme.
Our sister institutes and planning organisations from around the world also celebrate. Find out what's happening in countries like Ireland, the USA, Australia, India, Malaysia, Canada, Pakistan, South Africa and here, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Belize, Jamaica and in Hong Kong just to name a few.
Check the WTPD programmes of our partner organisations like the Global Planners Network, the Commonwealth Association of Planners, the European Council of Spatial Planners, the International Federation of Housing and Planning, and the International Society of City and Regional Planners.
Planning is critical to delivering the UN New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals -agreed by over 190 governments at Habitat III in Quito 2016.
How Can You Get Involved?
You are all invited. Planners, built environment professionals, residents, stakeholders, children, politicians – everyone-. The UK and Ireland have signed up several international commitments to promote sustainable and equitable development. And you can help us showcase what good planning is and how planners help create the places we and future generations want to live in.
Organise an event in your local neighbourhood, at your office, university, school etc. Invite some planners, residents, students, scholars and politicians to take part.
We can help you promote your activities - email firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us what you have planned.
What is the RTPI doing for 2017?
This year we keep promoting our commitment to the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
