TERMS OF REFERENCE
The role of the Committee is to lead work on developing the relationship between all aspects of Institute activity and the practices of planning outside the British Isles and the Institute’s relations with bodies in other countries and international bodies relevant to planning, and to develop and strengthen the Institute’s international links and standing.
REMIT
To that end, the Committee's remit is to:
- provide advice and information on current international planning issues;
- provide longer-term or broader-based perspectives on international issues and how they might impact on planning (for example, the possible effects of the UK involvement in the G8, or future population growth forecasts and their potential effects on urbanisation), in order to inform the Institute’s strategic planning and action;
- provide introductions to new international contacts where necessary; and
- undertake specific projects on international themes as agreed.
OPERATION
a) The Committee will link its work to that of relevant government departments, in order to strengthen the Institute’s links at government level and its positioning as a key partner in international planning issues;
b) To that end, it will work with the international sections of other built environment professions;
c) The Committee will ensure there is a mechanism for taking forward action points arising from the Committee, by having the Director, Research and Practice and/or the Director, Programmes and Services authorised to attend meetings and take action as necessary;
d) It will use two reporting mechanisms: through the Director(s) to the Management Team for information and action; and through the Director(s) and Secretary-General to the Executive Board for information.
As agreed in October 2005.
