Alex Ely of Mae Architects says: "We're delighted to receive the RTPI's East of England Award and the recognition it gives to our transformation of a challenging estate aimed at helping to improve the lives of residents. It would have been easy to demolish and start again but the fabric of Hillington Square was sound. Remodelling has allowed us to develop a template for adapting such estates, extending their life and overcoming their urban and architectural design flaws"

Commendation in the 2015 Regional Planning Achievement Award

  • School of Pythagoras, St John's College, Cambridge - entered by Beacon Planning Ltd.

Dr Jon Burgess, Director, Beacon Planning, says: "We were delighted to win the commendation for our work, together with Caroe Architecture, to sensitively adapt the Grade I listed School of Pythagoras at St John's College.  It is wonderful to see a high quality heritage scheme being recognised by the RTPI".

Other Short-listed Projects:

  • "Great Witchingham Community Project" by Broadland District Council
  • "New Museums Site, University of Cambridge" by LDA Design and Cambridge University Estate Management
  • "Cambridge American Cemetery" by Beacon Planning Ltd.
