RTPI Cymru Spring Conference 2012

Planning for Historical Renewal

The 2012 RTPI Cymru Spring Conference was held in Llandudno on 13 March and discussed heritage renewal, chaired by Trefor Thorpe, President of the IHBC. Supported by Cadw and the IHBC, the Conference heard from a range of speakers considering a range of topics from the overall context and how history and heritage are important in place making; Carole-Anne Davies from the Design Commission for Wales said that “the much of the built environment in Wales is old – but it’s a live, and informs what we do.” It’s also “not about what we were, but what we can be.” Other topics included characterisation and how this is used to inform local strategies and projects.
