RTPI South West promotes planning as a profession and builds links with other built environment professions and organisations throughout the South West. We offer members a programme of affordable seminars and events to assist with their continuing professional development requirements, and also publish a regular newsletter for member

More than 2,000 planners from central, regional and local government, private consultancies, the education sector and other organisations are members of RTPI South West. We welcome the views and opinions of all our members, and we are always looking for volunteers to help with running our programmes.

RESULTS OF THE RTPI SW PLANNING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS 2009 (sponsored by WYG Planning)

This year 9 submissions for the RTPI National Awards were forwarded to the RTPI SW for regional judging. The standard of these was generally good and the judging panel was faced with difficult decisions.  However, the Judges are pleased to announce that the following have been given Awards or Commendations:

The Award Ceremony was held on Wednesday 20th January 2010 at the Cabot Circus Marketing Suite.  The photo shows  representatives from Cabot Circus receiving their award.  A full article with photos of all award winners will be in the next edition of Branchout.    


RTPI OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD

RTPI South West Martin Willey presentation imageThe South West Region is pleased to announce that Dr Geoff  Walker has been awarded the RTPI's Outstanding Service Award for recognition of his outstanding contribution to the work of the Institute.  His work with the Region has included Chair, Editor of the Newsletter and organiser of the SW Planning Achievement Awards and he has been an invaluable link between the Region and the UWE Planning School.  Geoff has also had a number of roles at RTPI national level relating to Planning Education (e.g. Member of Accreditation Panel).  He has also served on the Millennium Marque South & West Regional Assessment Panel and the CPD panel.  The award was presented by Martin Willey, RTPI President, at the RTPI SW Annual Dinner on 3rd July with friends and colleagues in attendance.

Planning & Commerce - 19th March 2010 - The Innovation Centre, Exeter

The pace of the economic downturn has had a profound impact upon town centres, retail centres, business parks and industrial estates. The availability of local employment is clearly at the fore, but the cumulative impact upon vitality and sense of place can be equally marked. The vulnerability of some areas has been exposed, but it has also thrown up new opportunities to review the function of our commercial centres. Our guest speakers will explore how PPS4 and PPS6 will impact on regeneration and rejuvenation, and consider the case for flexibility, invention and innovation.  See attached flier for more information.
