RTPI NORTH WEST REGION  5-a-side Football Tournament

Phoenix Club win again!

On the 18th October, 14 teams met at a new venue, Bolton Arena, for our 10th regional 5-a-side football tournament. The rain managed to stay off for the afternoon which was great and the Phoenix Club (Liverpool City Council) took home the winners trophy for the second time, beating Faber Maunsell 1 in the final 2-0.

The other semi finalists were The Mediocre 7 (Warrington BC) who drew with the Phoenix Club 2-2 but got beat 3-2 on penalties and NJL Consulting who also drew 2-2 with Faber Maunsell 1 but lost 3-1 on penalties.  The Arena awarded two additional trophies for Best Player of the tournament which went to Chris Ridland of the Phoenix Club and Best Keeper which went to Paul Sham of Urbed, both well deserved for their outstanding performances.  All winners and runners up also received trophies and the Phoenix Club, once again, got to take back to Liverpool the ‘Wooden Ball’!

The event was kindly sponsored by White Young Green, Urban Vision and Planning Aid and we would like to extend our thanks to Dave Jolley from Urban Vision who came to support the event and presented the trophies.   It was a great afternoon and I think most would agree that the venue was excellent and the baguettes and chips were very nice, oh and not forgetting the apple pie!!

ROYAL TOWN PLANNING INSTITUTE NORTH WEST & “WHITE YOUNG GREEN” PLANNING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS FOR 2009

Nominations are currently being invited for the “RTPI North West & White Young Green Planning Achievement Awards for 2009”. As in the last four years, the scheme is to be run alongside the national award scheme, but as you will know by now the Regional award scheme is more fun because it is free to enter.

The Award scheme represents an ideal platform for promoting best practice amongst fellow planning practitioners and raising the profile of good planning across the North West. Past winners have gone on to publicise the fact when attracting potential new employees - to great effect!

All we need from you is a 1500 word submission accompanied by illustrations of a particular planning project that you have been involved in, or that you are familiar with. The projects may range from desk-based publications, strategies, masterplans and neighbourhood consultation exercises through to implemented schemes, and include examples from the built environment through to the natural environment.

The closing date for submissions has been extended to Sunday 31st May 2009. Please send your submission(s) to:

The Regional Judging Panel will draw up a short-list of submissions in June and carry out site visits in the summer months, duly selecting the winning projects. Each entry will be considered on its merits and awards and commendations will be ascribed accordingly. The overall winner of the Planning Achievement Awards will announced and presented at the RTPI NW Dinner, which will be held in Manchester on Friday 2nd October 2009.
