RTPI North East
The North East
RTPI North East promotes planning as a profession and builds links with other built environment professions and organisations throughout the North East. We offer members a programme of affordable seminars and events to assist with their continuing professional development requirements, and also publish a regular newsletter for members.
Almost 800 planners from central, regional and local government, private consultancies, the education sector and other organisations are members of RTPI North East. We welcome the views and opinions of all our members, and we are always looking for volunteers to help with running our programmes. NE Regional Awards 2008
Record Number of Entries Received
17 entries have been received for this year’s RTPI NE Regional Awards, including 8 which were also entered for a National Award. Most parts of the region are represented amongst the entries, with three entries from Northumberland and five from Tees Valley, as well as nine from Tyne and Wear.
Once again, plan-making is represented amongst the entries, with an Area Action Plan, a Sustainability Appraisal, and an LDF Core Strategy, whilst there will also be wide interest in an entry relating to preparations for planning in a new Unitary Council, a Residents’ Charter, and Urban Design Training for a group of residents.
There are also some high profile regeneration schemes from the urban centres, and of a more modest scale in rural areas, plus some interesting examples of housing projects.
Altogether, something for everyone, and a difficult job for the regional assessors, who now have the summer to appraise all the entries. Presentations will be made at a Grand Awards Dinner, to be held in the Autumn at the National Glass Centre, Sunderland.
RTPI National President - Janet O'Neill is to visit the Region in October & December
