RTPI Ireland
There are approximately 839 members of the RTPI in Ireland.
Most of the members in the Republic of Ireland work in local authority planning departments, private sector practices, the development industry and Government departments. Others undertake work for a variety of organisations based in the community, voluntary and education sectors.
Due to the more centralised structure of the planning system in Northern Ireland far fewer planners are employed in local authority planning departments.

RTPI Ireland 70th Anniversary Conference - Building Bridges, Planning for strategic infrastructure development
Wednesday 12th October, Dublin 9:30-4:30
This conference addresses the key issues that face the planning and development of strategic infrastructure on the island of Ireland, five years since the development of the Act.Since the commencement of the Planning and Development (Strategic Infrastructure) Act 2006, the most critical, complex, and often controversial, development, deemed to be of strategic importance to the State, and often having an all-island dimension, is now planning-led. This requires a careful and pragmatic balancing of strategic need and technical performance with public and stakeholder input, environmental issues, and legal requirements.

RTPI Membership fees no longer viewed as Benefit In Kind
Ireland’s Office of the Revenue Commissioners have recently clarified former Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan’s Budget plans to tax professional membership fees paid by employers as a form of benefit in kind to employees.
Following a briefing note issued by the Revenue Commissioners on the 25th March 2011 http://www.revenue.ie/en/practitioner/ebrief/2011/no-192011.html, they have confirmed that most professional subscriptions, such as RTPI membership fees paid by employers, will continue to be exempt from tax under Benefit in Kind rules where the professional subscription is relevant to the employee’s work.
Therefore, if you have already been taxed on your RTPI membership fees as a benefit in kind this year, your employer should seek clarification from the Revenue Commissioners whether you are due a refund.
