RTPI Cymru

Cardiff BayRTPI Cymru promotes planning as a profession and builds links with other built environment professions and organisations throughout Wales. We offer members a programme of affordable seminars and events to assist with their continuing professional development requirements, and also publish 'Cynllunio., a regular newsletter for members.

We have a membership of just over 1,050 planners, drawn from the Welsh Assembly Government, National Parks and local government, private consultancies, the education sector and other organisations working in the field of planning. We welcome the views and opinions of all our members, and we are always looking for volunteers to help with running our programmes.

The RTPI launched its Seven Commitments for planning to live with climate change in June. RTPI Cymru is currently working on its own action plan to support the overall work of the RTPI in meeting these Commitments. Further details will be available soon from this website. Wales Planning Conference 2009 Hailed a Success by Delegates

Wales%20Planning%20Conference%202009The second Wales Planning Conference, held on 2 June 2009, in Cardiff was a resounding success, attracting nearly 250 delegates despite a difficult economic climate.

The theme of the Conference was delivery of the Welsh planning system, and Welsh Assembly Government Minister, Jane Davidson, used this as the focus of her address to the conference to explain how she believes planning can delivering the Assembly's climate change policy and how it can deliver improved public services to the people of Wales. Click here for more details.

 

Wales Planning Award 2009 Open for Entries

Do you have a scheme, strategy or process that demonstrates an aspect of good planning practice?

The Wales Planning Award recognises & applauds examples of good planning practice in Wales.

There are no prescriptive categories or themes and no limitations on the scale of projects that can be submitted. The only requirement is that the project embodies and demonstrates some aspect of good planning practice, worthy of recognition.

In 2008, the judges commented that the range of projects submitted demonstrated the broad range of skills that the planning profession encompasses, including transportation planning, master planning, city centre planning and community planning.

The closing date for entries is 17 July 2009.

Climate change challenge

Climate change poses a professional challenge to all planners and is prompting changes to the RTPI Vision for Planning. Members have been asked for their feedback and a debate has been held in the General Assembly. Click here to view the emerging vision.

Community Engagement Training for Planners 

In mid-June Planning Aid Wales will be delivering five regional training events for planners on engagement and participation techniques.

Funded by RTPI Cymru and the Welsh Assembly Government and delivered in conjunction with BDOR Ltd, experts in participation training, the courses will aim to create the conditions of understanding, clarity, openness and empathy needed for effective public engagement in planning.  The training will also provide a range of practical tools for planners wanting to engage communities more effectively. Hyfforddiant ymgysylltiad cymunedol ar gyfer cynllunwyr

Yn wythnos gyntaf mis Rhagfyr, bydd Cymorth Cynllunio Cymru yn dosbarthu rhaglen o bump digwyddiad hyfforddi rhanbarthol un-dydd ar ymgysylltiad cymunedol a thechnegau cyfranogi ar gyfer cynllunwyr.

Ariannir y rhaglen hyfforddi ar y cyd gan Y Sefydliad Cynllunio Trefol Brenhinol yng Nghymru a Llywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru.  Traddodir y rhaglen gan Gymorth Cynllunio Cymru mewn cydweithrediad â BDOR cyf, arbenigwyr mewn hyfforddiant cyfranogaeth.  Amcan y cyrsiau yw creu amgylchiadau eglur, agored a chydymdeimladol sy’n hanfodol ar gyfer ymgysylltu’r cyhoedd mewn cynllunio.  Byddant hefyd yn darparu ystod o declynnau a thechnegau ymarferol sydd ar gael i gynllunwyr sy’n ceisio cael cymunedau lleol i gymryd rhan mewn materion cynllunio. Clichwch yma am manylion.

Delivering Sustainable Buildings

In April and May 2009, RTPI Cymru organised four intensive training sessions for local planning authority officers, with grant funding from the Welsh Assembly Government. Over 100 officers attended the training delivered by AECOM and Barton Willmore.

The training provided information on the new Assembly Government planning policy for delivering sustainable policies and new legislative requirements for Design and Access Statements from 1 June 2009 in Wales.
