Neighbourhood Planning; What it is and how to do it

This half day event focuses on the Government’s consultation on the draft Neighbourhood Planning Regulations.

The event will raise your awareness of neighbourhood planning; build your understanding of what it can achieve and what is involved. The event is also a chance for you to present your views on the regulations directly to the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), as well as help inform the RTPI’s response to the consultation.

Your Passport to Neighbourhood Planning - Training Conference  - Derby - Friday 13 & Saturday 14 January 2012

In order to enable Planning Aid to further support communities around the changes to the planning system, we are holding a training conference for volunteers. This event will provide participants with a Neighbourhood Planning masterclass, update them on the frontrunner pilots and train them in how to deliver a new assessment toolkit workshop to communities.

Places are limited to around 80 people who will form the basis of our core team of leaders and facilitators. These will be pro-rata'd across the 8 areas of England covered by Planning Aid. Due to the technical nature of the workshop product, this training is only open to chartered members, retired chartered members or those with a good understanding and experience of working in spatial planning (2-3 years). All volunteers signing up are expected to commit to delivering a minimum of 2 activities during the period mid-January to 31 March 2012.

This is not only a great opportunity for you to support the work of Planning Aid and help deliver planning support to communities, but also to gain valuable experience and CPD learning which will enhance your career. The training conference will be certificated with clear learning outcomes and will be your passport to becoming a leading volunteer for the ‘Are you fit for Neighbourbood Planning’ workshops.

Expressions of interested for this event have now closed. Draft programme can be viewed here.

Future volunteer opportunities:

Following the conference, Outreach Co-ordinators will recruit other volunteers to support this core group mentioned above and create teams to work together on each specific activity. Details of activities will be posted on here on the website as they are identified and will be open to all volunteers.

There will also be the opportunity to get involved in other training activities and plan making support sessions. This information will also be provided via your Outreach Co-ordinator through newsletter/mailing requests.
