Most people only encounter planning when a change takes place affecting their home or community. The planning system can affect where you work, live and play so it's important you are aware of the plans and policies affecting not only your local area but also your town, region. New national policies such as National Policy Statements also affect your life and area.

We aim to make the planning system accessible to everyone so you can have a say about changes in your local area.

Planning Aid England can help you to:

• Understand and take part in the planning system
• Take part in the preparation of plans
• Comment on planning applications
• Apply for planning permission (we do not however draw plans)
• Appeal against a decision
• Represent yourself at appeals or public enquiries
