Dave Westhead - photo.jpgTechnical membership is for skilled and experienced enforcement, technical or administrative staff engaged in key spatial planning activities but who are not eligible for Chartered Town Planner membership.

There are two pathways to Technical membership:

Pathway 1: Educational component + 2 years (minimum)

Pathway 1 is for applicants with education or training at Certificate level (equivalent to one year of an undergraduate degree - see examples below) that includes a high level of planning content including legal issues, and two yearsof full-time employment post-qualification (or the equivalent part-time) in a technical, administrative or similar planning support role.

Acceptable academic qualifications

Qualifications which may be counted towards Technical membership should be at a minimum at the Higher National Certificate or Diploma Level. They should contain a significant proportion of spatial planning content. Examples of qualifications which meet this requirement include:

  • a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Diploma (HND) in Planning or equivalent in a planning related subject
  • a National/Scottish Vocational Qualification (N/SVQ) at Level 3 in Built Environment Development (Planning, Conservation and Building Control) or other planning related subject
  • the first year of an RTPI accredited degree
  • Level 3 Town Planning Technical Support Apprenticeship.

Pathway 2: No educational component but 5 years of employment (minimum)

Pathway 2 is for people working in planning without formal qualifications who can demonstrate5 yearsof full-time employment experience in a technical, administrative or other planning support role.

Technical members are entitled to use the post-nominals RTPI(Tech).

  

Costs

There is a £20 administration fee to process your application. The annual subscription rate for Technical membership is £127. Fees can be paid online or by cheque.
