Reciprocal arrangements

The RTPI has an arrangement in place for chartered or full members of the following professional bodies to become RTPI members:

  • Canadian Institute of Planners
  • New Zealand Planning Institute
  • Planning Institute of Australia.

Applicants must also have two years full time planning experience or have completed the distance learning Certificate in UK Planning Law and Practice.  The applicant's experience will be assessed by the Membership Panel to ensure it is at the level of a Chartered planner.  Further information is available in the Reciprocal Pathway Guidance.

How to apply

Applications for Chartered Town Planner status through the Reciprocal Pathway are considered by the RTPI Membership Panel on a quarterly basis. Applicants must complete a Reciprocal Pathway Application Form detailing their academic qualifications and outlining their experience. Membership of a reciprocal body does not automatically result in acceptance as a Chartered member.  Applicants should provide an evidence of their current membership of the reciprocal body.

Closing dates for 2013 applications are:

  • 17 January
  • 22 February
  • 12 April
  • 24 May
  • 12 July
  • 23 August
  • 11 October

Fees

There is a £200 administration fee which must accompany each application. Fees can be paid online or via cheque.

The eligibility criteria and application process for reciprocal arrangements will change in 2014.
