Job hunting
We offer guidance to those looking to start their career in planning, or who are already in employment but are thinking of their next career move. This includes CV & job interview advice, finding that next job, and transferable skills - for those planners who find themselves working outside the planning profession.
Some graduates face real challenges finding employement unless they have work experience, but how do you get practical work experience without a job? This page includes articles on voluntary work experience (or internships). We're also calling on more employers to offer graduates work opportunities.
Legal advice
There may be times when your employer is looking to restructure, review staff contracts, or consider redundancies. Alternatively your personal circumstances may change, you may have caring responsibilities, or are planning study part-time whilst employed. You might be an employer seeking independent employment advcie. The RTPI's employment law helpline provides RTPI members with access to free advice.
Work for yourself?
Consultancy is another career option. We offer a wealth of information on many issues relating to consultacy, whether you are thinking of setting up your own practice or considering small amounts of freelance planning advice.
Local support
We also provide career and member support workshops and events with RTPI Regions and Nations. Aimed at graduates, licentiates and chartered planners, these events discuss a range of issues and offer practical advice. Redundancy, redeployment, finding employment, developing your career, or thinking of becoming a self-employed planning consultant - these are some of the topics covered. Speakers included recruitment agencies, employers, self-employed consultants and the RTPI.
