We have made a series of improvements to the APC process, making this faster, cheaper and more certain for candidates. These include:
- assessing applications within eight weeks and considering any first time resubmissions within two and a half weeks of submission, giving candidates certainty.
- accepting all applications electronically, reducing costs for candidates
- reviewing guidance material to make it clearer and ensure candidates have a better understanding of what is required of them
- publishing a calendar of dates with application deadlines and results dates.
We have run training for assessors in London, Newcastle and Birmingham, and training for APC mentors and employers of planning graduates will be undertaken in the next few months.
A new APC Advisory Panel (reporting to the Membership & Ethics Committee) with representatives from employers, assessors, Licentiates and planning schools is being established to assist in setting the strategic direction for the APC.
Other membership changes include:
- Affiliate Membership – the non-professional class for those interested in planning – was introduced in January and already has over 200 members
- revised eligibility criteria for Technical Membership, so that candidates who have certificate-level qualifications with significant planning content will now only require two years of experience to be eligible. Those with no planning education will require five years’ experience.
- the review of the RTPI’s approach to Fellowship is reaching its conclusion and an announcement of the new process will be made soon.
- to assist members who need to take a career break, we will be introducing a leave of absence
