The RTPI now accredits 29 planning schools, while three more are currently provisionally accredited. All accredited planning schools have Partnership Boards, which are made up of representatives from the planning school, local practitioners and RTPI representatives (including the Chair of the Board and a member or representative of the Education & Lifelong Learning Department of the RTPI). RTPI staff participated in Partnership Boards at 24 universities during 2012, and delivered talks on RTPI membership at 28 planning schools in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The RTPI carries out CPD monitoring and in 2011-2012, 400 members had their records reviewed as part of this process. Members undertook an average of 104 hours over the 2 year period – more than twice as much as the basic requirement - and used a wide range of different activities to do this.
Sources of CPD included attending RTPI conferences, RTPI Regional and Chapter events, participating in the RTPI Networks, volunteering for organisations such as Planning Aid, undertaking action learning and work-based learning such as secondments. Any member who would like support in meeting the CPD requirements should contact the Education team at education@rtpi.org.uk – over the last year, many members have received individual support from our Lifelong Learning Officer.
In 2012, Cundall (Newcastle) and Smart Planning Ltd have joined the group of organisations who have demonstrated their commitment to best practice in staff training and development by becoming RTPI Learning Partners. These organisations benefit from the use of the RTPI Learning Partner logo, a named contact at the RTPI and access to the Education and Lifelong Learning Awards, as well as a regular e-bulletin.
