Mentoring is an important part of the APC process, and can have great benefits for both mentors and for Licentiates.
The RTPI is currently organising training and information events for mentors and employers. Details are in the events section of the website.

Finding a mentor
Licentiates are advised, where possible, to identify their own mentor, as this should more easily facilitate a productive working relationship, and make access to meetings with the mentor more viable. APC mentors do not have to be Chartered Town Planners. They may come from the workplace, or from networking, or be personally known to you. If you are having difficulty finding a mentor, you can request assistance from the RTPI by completing the Request for a Mentor Form and emailing it to membership@rtpi.org.uk.
Volunteering as a mentor
Mentoring for a Licentiate can be a great opportunity for a Chartered Town Planner. Mentors benefit from written guidance and training, and mentoring can be a great CPD opportunity. Most mentors say what a lot of satisfaction they have gained from helping someone at the start of their career. Mentors report learning from Licentiates, and develop coaching skills which are often invaluable in the workplace. To volunteer as a member you need to complete the Mentor Registration Form and return it to the membership team.

Mentor agreements do not need to be registered with the RTPI any more. The agreement is between the mentor and Licentiate.
