Work, Rest and Play: Planning for Functional Territories

A workshop organised by the Irish and UK ESPON Contact Points

7 April, Dundalk, Ireland

The workshop considered the practical issues relating to planning for functional territories, and focused on cross-border contexts in particular. The discussion centred on the experience of Newry and Dundalk as a functional territory that is currently strengthening and formalising its mechanisms for collaboration.

The workshop created a space in which the planning and policy community could share and learn from each other. The aim of the event was to consider how ESPON can support practitioners in their day-to-day workings, and to learn from this practical experience. Cliff Hague's recent blog looks at cross-border development, and the case of Newry-Dundalk.
