Latest ESPON call and partner finding

The 8th call for proposals and expressions of interest launches today (24 January 2011). The total available budget for the call amounts to 5 493 000 and includes:

1. Proposals Applied Research projects (Priority 1)

  • European Regions: Potential Contribution to the EU 2020 Strategy
  • Territorial Scenarios and Visions for Europe
  • Territorial Potentials for a Greener Economy
  • Territorial Governance Best Practices for New Perspectives

2. Expression of Interest by stakeholders for Targeted Analyses (Priority 2)

3. Proposals within the ESPON Scientific Platform (Priority 3)

  • EU Territorial Monitoring and Reporting System

The deadline for submitting proposals is 21 March 2011. An Info Day and Partner Café is being held on 10 February 2011, and a Partner Café group has been created on LinkedIn to help with the formation of Transnational Project Groups (TPGs). The ESPON Partner Café now has 249 registered potential partners for creating TPGs, and further information can be found on our partner finding web pages.

ESPON UK workshop 14 February

London South Bank University will host the rescheduled ESPON UK Contact Points workshop cancelled on 3 December because of severe weather. The workshop will include presentations on PURR, EDORA and FOCI ESPON projects and will shape a report on UK implications of emerging ESPON research. Please register on the event web page by 3 February as places are limited.

First ESPON 2013 Scientific Report published

The First ESPON 2013 Scientific Report has recently been published, edited by Gordon Dabinett from Sheffield University. It includes three scientific papers produced as a result of ESPON research carried out under ReRISK, FOCI and EDORA applied research projects. The chapter on EDORA has been written by Andrew Copus from the UHI Millennium Institute. The aim of the report is to contribute to the scientific dialogue between researchers and experts and build a scientific platform for future policy development.

Local Economy call for papers

Local Economy is calling for papers for a special edition on the EU. The journal is keen to publish relevant material from ESPON 2013 researchers and stakeholders either as:

  • Viewpoints short, polemical opinion pieces of about 2000 words
  • Feature articles longer pieces of between 4000-6000 words which are peer-reviewed
  • In Perspective articles papers of between 2000-3000 words reflecting on examples of practice, whether a policy, programme or project, which are not peer-reviewed

Spatial Planning in Europe in terms of INSPIRE

ISOCARP is holding a seminar in Brussels on 24 February 2011 for public and private organisations involved in spatial planning in Europe. It will discuss Plan4all issues and the challenges of European spatial planning and the programme is available here. Places are limited, so contact Didier Vancutsem by 11 February if you are interested in attending.
