While the ESPON UK Contact Point exists to offer general support to the UK community, please note that all formal queries and applications must be addressed directly to the ESPON EU Co-ordination Unit.

Important note to UK researchers: if you want us to circulate a call for partners to all the other national contact points or to target a few key ones please just send us (research@rtpi.org.uk) a short paragraph for how you would like your interest to be presented.

ESPON Partner Café

Rural Evidence Research Centre (RERC), Birkbeck College University of London

The RERC was established in 2004 core funded by Defra. The team designed and implemented the E&W rural-urban definition and have used it extensively in rural and social economic research. The Centre has a particular focus on small towns which form a sub set of the definition (pop 1500-40000) and has developed a major database on these using the ONS urban definition. The centre has also conducted research for Defra, the Commission for Rural Communities and private sector organisations.

The RERC is interested in participating as a project partner for the Priority 1 project on Small and Medium sized Towns in their Functional Territorial Context.
