ESPON has announced today (18 April)  that a new Call for Proposals has opened; applications to be submitted by 13 June 2012.

The call will encourage applications to be submitted for the following two priorities:

Targeted Analysis (Priority 2)

North Sea - Spreading Transnational Results (budget €340,000).

Scientific Platform/Tools (priority 3)

1. European Territorial Monitoring System (budget €598,000)

2. Detecting Territorial Potential and Challenges (budget €350,000)

3. European Urban Benchmarking Web Tool (budget €200,000)

ESPON has announced that that only one project per theme will be selected.

Scientists and experts representing universities, research institutes, public bodies, private companies from 31 European countries (EU 27 + Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) including the UK are invited to apply for the Calls.

ESPON is organising an Info Day and Partner Café on 10 May 2012 in Brussels to help potential partners form project groups.

The event is open to all potential beneficiaries and if you are interested to participate please register early by completing the online form available here.

Deadline for registration is 26 April 2012 at 15h00.

Call for Tender - ESPON Data Navigator 2012

This procurement will select a tender to carry out a project to update the Data Navigator under the ESPON 2013 Programme.

The budget available for the contract is €75000.

Details of the call are available on the ESPON website. The application deadline is 14:00 (CET) on 27 February 2012.

9th call for proposals and expressions of interest

The 9th Call closed on 20 October 2011. The Call launched projects as follows:

1. Applied Research on:

  • European neighbour regions (€750 000.00)
  • Small and medium towns in their functional territorial context (€650 000.00)
  • The territorial dimension of poverty and social exclusion in Europe (€750 000.00)
  • Economic crises: resilience of regions (€759 153.00)

2. Targeted Analyses based on Expressions of Interest by stakeholders on up to five projects. The Monitoring Committee selected the best ranking Expressions of Interest to form the basis of project specifications which will be published in August.

  • Growth poles in South East of Europe (GROSEE) (€360 000.00)
  • Key indicators for territorial cohesion and spatial planning (KITCASP) (€360 000.00)
  • Liveable landscapes for sustainable territorial development (LIVELAND) (€379 796.09)
  • Landscape policy for the 3 Countries Park (LP3LP) (€360 000.00)
  • North sea - spreading transnational results (North Sea STAR) (€340 000.00)

3. ESPON Scientific Platform/Tools on:

  • EU territorial monitoring and reporting (€598 000.00)
  • ESPON Atlas on European territorial structures and dynamics (€150 000.00)
  • Detecting territorial potential and challenges (€350 000.00)
  • Territorial evidence packs for ERDF Programmes (€500 000.00)
  • ESPON online mapping tool (€150 000.00)
  • Territorial monitoring in a European macro region - a test for the Baltic Sea Region (€360 000.00)

4. Transnational Networking Activities (ESPON Contact Point Network only) (€600 227.00)

The UK ESPON Contact Point can circulate details of those interested in participating in this call to the wider ESPON community. We can also publish your details and area of interest on our partner finding pages which will be set up to assist in the creation of transnational project groups. Previous calls

8th Call for proposals and expressions of interest

The 8th Call for proposals and expressions of interest closed on 21 March 2011. The call included Applied Research projects, Expression of Interest for Targeted Analyses, and Scientific Platform – Territorial Indicators and Monitoring. An Info Day and Partner Café was held on 10 February 2011 and the presentations are now available.

Information on this call can be found on the ESPON website. Successful applicants will be informed once the Monitoring Committee has made its decision at the end of June 2011.

7th Call for Expressions of Interest

The 7th call for expression of interest for the ESPON 2013 Knowledge Support System (KSS) closed on 21 January 2011 with 100 expressions of interest from 21 European countries. The call aimed to enlarge the existing pool of experts supporting ESPON Applied Research.

Evaluation of the applications will take place between February and March, and decisions will be made at the end of March 2011.
