Environmental Impact Assessment

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regulations that came into force in May have introduced the concept of competent experts and that the responsibility falls on the developer to employ competent experts and to demonstrate this in documentation alongside the environmental statement.

Professional membership of an appropriate body or organisation is one way of demonstrating competency. The RTPI takes the view that chartered town planners who have suitable experience in preparing EIAs are competent experts.
