PIPA Annual Conference

PIPA has held an annual Conference in England since 2007 and a Conference in Scotland in 2008 when the Scottish Parliament was setting up its own planning laws. PIPA also contributed to a Councillor's Conference in Northern Ireland in 2009 and has participated in the Annual RTPI Cymru Conference where Councillor delegates are invited. Details of the 2010 & 2011 Conferences can be seen here.

PIPA Conference 2012

The theme for the 2012 Conference was 'Delivering Local Planning: getting the most from the new framework'. It was held in Derby on Saturday 3 November and excellent contributions came from a wide range of relevant organisations including the Local Government Association (LGA), the Planning Advisory Service (PAS), the Planning Inspectorate (PINS), and the Planning Officers' Society (POS). Afternoon breakout sessions were chosen by delegates from 12 options ranging from the details on neighbourhood planning to a look at Frieburg, the self-styled Green City.

The venue for the 2012 Conference was the award-winning Derby Roundhouse. This Conference venue has been converted from an engine-turning shed that formed part of the railway hub complex adjacent to Derby station. Great care has been taken to conserve original features whilst incorporating all the features that our Conference needed.

Please see the Conference programme here where the presentations are being linked in as they become available (large pdfs may take a while to download).

It is appreciated that PIPA Conferences have been confined largely to English issues. We do not at this time have funding for Conferences in in Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales but the RTPI offers a number of relevant local events annually. We have previously held a national Conference in Scotland and we will continue to look for helpful opportunities for events beyond England.
