As the only body in the UK responsible for the professional certification of planners, we lead the way in promoting the profession, developing and shaping policy that affects the built environment and setting standards for education and professional development. 

Our members actively influence current thinking on spatial planning through participating in debate, developing good practice, responding to government consultations and bridging the gap between policy and research.

Through our different classes of membership, we aim to provide the right level of support for all those involved in planning. We facilitate professional development through a range of services including publications, our library and information service, conferences and regional and national activity, as well as online resources on a range of spatial planning topics. We support our members throughout their professional careers, by offering practical support such as legal and employment advice and guidance on professional conduct and good practice.

We have an international reputation for excellence and seek to play a key role in promoting sustainable development and finding innovative and practical solutions to global environmental problems. With members coming from more than 90 countries, we are able to facilitate the communication and exchange of ideas between like-minded professionals across the world.
