Current Issues Facing the Countryside The Commission for Rural Communities and the Guardian have produced a number of articles around rural planning issues. These articles focus on affordable housing, services, in-migration, environment amongst others.
The Countryside Quality Counts Project This project provides an assessment of how the countryside is changing. “It helps us to understand where change is occurring and whether change matters to people, in terms of the way it affects the things about landscape that people value. This information can be used to inform decision-making and policies for achieving sustainable development.”
The Life and Times of the Countryside Agency This publication by a Network Core Group member looks and the life and times of the Countryside Agency, providing a short history, an account of the organisations work and also looks at the future prospects for the English countryside.
The State of the Countryside Report 2007 This report by the Commission for Rural Communities provides information on social, economic and environmental issues in rural areas. The report shows the number of migrant workers in rural areas has grown by 200% in the last three years, the average rural household spent is higher than the urban household, 44% of households in isolated rural areas are within accessible reach of a GP; and there has been a big increase in the demand for energy crops.
