Education for Sustainable Development - Manual for Planners
11-Jun-07
This Manual is a companion publication to the ‘Manual for Schools’, a guide to Education for Sustainable Development for teachers published in 2004. This ‘Manual for Planners’ now provides planners with advice about the needs of teachers, youth workers and students.
So this Manual is for you, the practising planner.
Professional planners have a responsibility to share their values, expertise and knowledge to further the art and science of planning. This Manual aims to give you practical and inspiring examples of how you can do this.
This Manual highlights practical and up-to-date case studies, drawn from real life. Current planning and related issues can help teachers and students understand the work of planners and the role that planning plays in influencing land use and change in their local area.

Adding Case Studies
This project was coordinated by the RTPI Education for Sustainable Development Network Steering Group, which comprised practicing planners with an interest and considerable experience of working with schools, teachers, other professionals and agencies.
It was designed as a flexible, interactive resource, to which new case studies can be added. If you are aware of an innovative project aimed at supporting Education for Sustainable Development, and you would be prepared to provide copy to feature on this site, please contact the Careers team at the RTPI.
