East of England 2006 Planning Achievement Award Winners

27-Mar-07

The RTPI East of England Awards Panel has great pleasure in announcing the winners of the 2006 RTPI East of England Planning Achievement Award.

The winning entry was from Huntingdonshire District Council for their project entitled New Heart for Oxmoor - "Local People Shaping Their Future".  The panel commented:  "A good example of how positive planning can deliver a multi disciplinary project with true long-term involvement by the local community.  The sustained drive and commitment by professionals and the community indicate the way in which planning can deliver real environment, social, commercial and health benefits by 'thinking outside the normal box' of regulations and bureaucracy to deliver tangible improvements to a community".

The runners-up prize went to Cambridge City Council for their "Cambridge Historic Core Conservation Area Appraisal".  Comments from the panel included: "A well-presented submission".  "The adopted approach - subject to site specifics - is of a very transferable nature".

Third prize went to Cambridgeshire County Council for their Lamb Drove, Cambourne - Sustainable Drainage Scheme.  The panel commented: "The practical delivery of a new drainage system involving the typical array of organisations.  The co-ordination of the organisations is a key achievement in ensuring that a variety of objectives - which frequently conflict - are met."

Representatives from most of the entries into this Regional Award attended the RTPI East of England AGM on 23 May.  Displays were provided in various formats and our thanks go to all those who supported this event.
