Introduction to Environmental Protection    UPDATED

RTPI EPPN (2007)

This interactive guide provides an introduction to the role of spatial planning in light of some of the most pressing environmental issues. It presents an overview of the relationship between spatial planning and environmental protection and providing an overview of key environmental issues, concepts and legislation that apply to England.

More detail is available though a series of topic papers that give greater insight into key topics, organisations and methods of assessment, to help all planners familiarise themselves with the main issues and opportunities. They also provide useful signposts to further information.

Environmental Impact Assessment

A planning practice standard which promotes the objectives of planning through the further development of environmental impact assessment as a planning tool.

Planning for Biodiversity

David Tyldesley and RTPI (1999)

A good practice guide which aims to help raise awareness of biodiversity conservation in the planning system and to improve understanding, help resolve conflict and create opportunities and provide practical guidance on planning instruments that may contribute to biodiversity conservation.
