The regional judging process has now been completed and the following awards made.

 Regenerating Devonport

An interesting and well presented submission about a challenging regeneration project in an ‘unfashionable’ kind of regeneration area. Not yet much new ‘on the ground’as yet , so regarded as an entry in the ‘other planning work’ category.

Commended

 Talking Tomorrow’s Taunton Deane

A worthy initiative, attempting to bring the whole of the community into the process of policy making .A good model for maximising inclusiveness with planners centrally involved.

Commended   ( other planning work category)

 River Avon SAC Planning Forum

An innovative approach to getting disparate groups acting together in the interests of managing and protecting an important natural resource. The Forum and its associated published Guidance, deals holistically with an entire watercourse, going beyond the usual administrative area ‘boxes’.

Winner in the ‘other planning work’ category and overall winner of the Philip Barclay Silver Cup

The other two South West entries – the  Urchfont Community Shop & Post Office and the Bishops Court Housing Scheme, Newton Ferrers , were both seen to be worthy schemes, with good planner involvement, clearly meeting a local need, but not of regional significance.

Awards presentations

Framed certificates and to the overall winner, the Silver Cup and commemorative plaque will be presented during the RTPI South West Conference on ‘Communicating the benefits of Planning through the Media’ at the Thistle Hotel in Exeter on Thursday 29 March 2007, to which all those submitting entries will be invited.
