Onshore Wind Seminar and Wind Farm Visit

- Time: 10.00am - 4.30pm
- Venue: Tickton Grange Hotel, Beverley (inc visit to Sancton Hill Wind Farm)

RenewableUK and partners is running a series of FREE Onshore Wind Seminars across the UK. These events will be held exclusively for local authority planners, councillors and representatives from statutory agencies and local interest groups. These events are designed to inform participants about the key drivers and benefits of onshore wind development. Participants have left these events with an increased knowledge of the range of considerations involved in the planning and development of wind energy projects and the drivers for renewable energy deployment. They have also come away with a greater awareness of the true nature of wind energy technology, and the facts associated with its development.
At lunchtime delegtaes will be taken to visit Sancton Hill Wind Farm. The site is owned by REG Energy. In September 2010 the East Riding of Yorkshire Council granted planning consent for our five turbine project outside the village of Sancton. Construction work began in November 2011 when Yorkshire firm Smith Brothers started to build the small on-site substation. Turbines are due to arrive on site in Spring 2012, with the first green electricity generated soon after. For further information on Sancton Hill Wind Farm, please visit their website here.

2011 events
In 2011 we have provided a series of low-cost CPD based seminars and workshops for over 350 delegates on topics as diverse as Marine Planning, Community Engagement and Life and Times of a Planning Inspector! Typically, these are early evening and/or half day events to complement the well established and respected RTPI Yorkshire Conference Series and provide good networking opportunities.
Recent events have included a Career Support Workshop in Leeds in October, and Community Engagement in Planning under Lcoalism in Leeds in November.
We held a event on Flooding and Water - Managing the Risk on 29 June in Huddersfield. Following on from Planning Policy Statement 25 (PPS25), the Environment Agency has provided updated Flood Risk Standing Advice (pdf). This seminar brought this advice, along with current practice, up to the minute and added a planning policy perspective, a focus on EIA, and the importance of FRA and environmental impact in the planning process.
The RTPI held an event on Corporate Membership & the Assessment of Professional Competence earlier in the year.
