RTPI Urban Design Network Quality & Density Interest Group

There is a huge amount of challenge and difficulty in UK growth areas in meeting the scale of housing numbers whilst consistently ensuring developments and places of quality. The Network has been seeking to promote good practice by highlighting some exemplar Case Studies.

GPN8: Extra Care Housing

RTPI and Department of Health (October 2007)

A step change in the delivery of high quality housing to meet the changing needs of the UK’s ageing population is urgently needed. This GPN advises on the planning implications of this new housing form.

Intelligent Approaches to Housing (Joint project)

Chartered Institute of Housing, Local Government Association and RTPI (2004)

Examines the changing policy context and need for better integrated working practices within and between authorities on housing and planning issues. It also provides a snapshot of current joint-working practices at local and sub-regional levels and makes recommendations for better integration.

Planning for Housing: The Potential for Sustainable Communities (Joint project)

Chartered Institute of Housing and RTPI (2003)

Addresses the argument that too often there is not enough interaction between the housing and planning professions. Provides a critical assessment of the elements of the Communities Plan that relate to planning for housing and makes a range of recommendations delivering sustainable communities.
