PRESIDENT'S SPECIAL AWARD FOR PLANNING ACHIEVEMENT

The RTPI  President’s Special Award for 2007 was presented to the Planning Schools by the 2007 President Jim Claydon. Professor David Shaw, Chair of the Conference of Heads of Planning Schools received the award at a presentation held at the London Hilton on Thursday 7th February.

Jim Claydon commented "The relationship between the RTPI and the Planning Schools has long been one of constructive partnership. That partnership is now formalised in the new accreditation procedures through which the Schools are committed to practice orientated research and professional development.The Institute in turn promotes planning education, supports the Universities through its practitioner panel members and the activities of its regions and nations"


The President’s Special Award recognises long term outstanding achievement in planning.   The award may be presented to a planning team, office, consultancy or individual to recognise an outstanding contribution over the past 20 years.

In its first year, the award was given to the planners of Birmingham City Council for their radical transformation of central Birmingham.   In 2001, the Planning Inspectorate received their award for quality and innovation in decision making and administration and in 2003 the award was made to The Town and Country Planning Association for its consistent and enduring commitment to a bold and imaginative practice of planning which builds communities on a basis of real sustainable development.

The 2006 award was made to Planning Magazine for its long term consistency in high quality reporting of planning matters.
