RTPI responds to neighbourhood planning fund announcement

10-Jan-11

The RTPI has responded to the Department for Communities and Local Government announcement that it is now inviting applications from eligible organisations for grant funding under its Supporting Communities and Neighbourhoods in Planning scheme.

Sue Percy, Director, Professional Services, Royal Town Planning Institute, said:

“We are very pleased that ministers have now published the funding prospectus and have invited applications by next month.

“This will enable Planning Aid England, which is set to lose all of its existing funding, to prepare a bid to provide planning advice, guidance and support to communities. We believe we are very well placed to deliver the types of high quality, professional and completely impartial services that will allow communities and community organisations to engage effectively with the planning system in the way the government wants.

“The decision to end grant funding to Planning Aid England was a severe blow but we recognise that the government is looking at different approaches to supporting communities in the field of planning.”
