RTPI Comprehensive Spending Review Support

What the RTPI is doing to supporting members

The threat of redundancy can be one of the most difficult issues to deal with in our professional lives. Cuts to the public sector may also result in reduced working hours, and re-deployment or secondment outside the Council’s planning & planning related services.

For over two years the RTPI’s Planners in the Workplace service has been supporting members facing an uncertain future, whether as a result of the recession or cuts to public services.

If you are facing redundancy, reduced working hours, or redeployment/secondment outside the planning profession, then please visit our supporting you and your career pages. You may also find the following RTPI News article (published 15/10/10) of interest.

What the RTPI is doing nationally

  • The Northern Ireland Planning Service has considered reducing staff numbers by a third. The RTPI has actively supported individual members affected, as well as made representations to Northern Ireland’s Planning Service and Environment Minister.
  • Making the case to directly to councillors at the Politicians in Planning conference 6th November for the retention of effective planning services in local authorities.
  • Making the case to government that an effective planning service will facilitate economic growth
  • Providing members in councils with the tools they need to make their case
  • Providing members in the public and private sectors with advice and assistance about what to do if they feel their job is under threat
  • From the New Year rolling out free online CPD modules

We are supporting LPA managers by highlighting ways to reduce costs and improve the quality of service:
