The latest RTPI (South West)'s RISPI Workshop takes place in Taunton on 22 September 2010 and relates to the evidence base for spatial planning including:

Office for National Statistics (ONS) Mid Year Population Estimates and the 2011 Census of Population

The DEMIFER Project - Demographic and Migratory Flows affecting European regions and cities

Strategic Housing Market Assessments

Sharing experience and knowledge across the South West

James Harris (Population Projection Unit, ONS Centre for Demography) will provide an overview of the latest (mid-2009) ONS population estimates for Local Authority areas in the South West. He will describe trends in population change, the recent improvements made to migration and population statistics, and the proposed use of the 2011 Census data in future work relating to population estimates.

Professor Philip Rees (School of Geography, University of Leeds) will provide an overview of the DEMIFER Project which aims to understand the demographic trends and processes affecting European regions to 2050 and their effect on regional development.

The workshop is free to attend, however places are limited to one delegate per Local Authority, consultancy, university or organisation. E-mail Helen Clarke to secure a place.
