RTPI elections 2010

04-Aug-10

Nominations have now closed

The RTPI is now holding its annual elections for the Junior Vice-President, the Executive Board and the General Assembly.

Nominations open on 1 September and close on 30 September. The ballot for these positions will take place during November, with results announced in early December.

The Institute is only as strong as its members and we hope that you will consider whether you have the time to contribute to the governance of the Institute.

Key dates: Summary

  1. 1 Sept - nominations open
  2. 30 Sept - nominations close
  3. November - ballot
  4. Early December - results

Junior Vice-President

This position is open to all corporate members who have served at least two consecutive years on the General Assembly or the Council in the last five years.

The Junior Vice-President is elected by the entire corporate membership. The Junior Vice-President becomes the Senior Vice-President and eventually the President, so in voting for the JVP for 2011 you are choosing the president for 2013.

Executive Board

The RTPI is managed by a Board of Trustees known as the Executive Board. The Executive Board has 15 trustees who have ultimate responsibility for the affairs of the Institute.

The elections for Executive Board members are staggered over different years to ensure that there is continuity in the Board membership. This year three corporate member positions are due for re-election, which are open to any corporate member and are elected by the General Assembly.

General Assembly

The General Assembly is the RTPI's primary forum for debate about the development of planning policy and practice and the corporate policy of the Institute. It is also responsible for electing the Trustees. The General Assembly consists of between 57 and 72 members.

Due for election are: 14 corporate members elected by the members; three Student/Licentiate members elected by the Student and Licentiate members; two Technical members elected by the Technical members; and one Legal Associate elected by the corporate members and Legal Associates.
