New guide to good public engagement in development published
29-Jun-10
COMMUNITY engagement specialists Planning Aid are today publishing a guide to good public engagement in development schemes.
The easy-to-read free guide - produced by Planning Aid England (PAE) and Planning Aid for London (PAL) - contains practical advice and is illustrated by real examples of good practice. It has been produced in response to a growing number of requests for advice on good practice in engaging with local people in development schemes.
PAE provides free, independent and professional planning advice to individuals and communities who cannot afford to pay professional fees.
Last year the service provided planning advice and support to almost 38,000 individuals and groups.
Sue Percy, Director of Planning Aid England, said: “There is no perfect recipe for good community engagement. All development schemes are different. But this guide describes some good practice ingredients which can be used to develop a positive and beneficial engagement process.”
Ann Skippers, President of the Royal Town Planning Institute, said: “The RTPI fully supports the principles in this useful guide and is committed to better public engagement. Better engagement creates better developments and better places for everyone.”
