GIS at the AESOP Annual Conference, Helsinki, 7-10 July 2010
Chris Webster and Elisabeta Silva are organizing a Special Session on GIS at this year’s AESOP conference. This session aims at addressing the previous needs through the use of computers in Planning. Topics to be address might include:
- Computer applications to produce spatial analyse,
- Computer applications to develop future simulations,
- The inclusion of computation and Planning in the education system,
- Other topics that might be considered relevant by those interested in these areas.
Papers can focus on theoretical, practical applications, or in the development of new computer applications. Contact es424@cam.ac.uk or Webster@Cardiff.ac.uk if you are interested in submitting an abstract. The conference’s website is www.aesop-planning.com

Lincoln Institute Deadline for Dissertation Fellowship Programme
The annual Dissertation Fellowship Program of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy invites applications from doctoral students who are writing dissertations in fields that address these areas of interest: 1) Valuation and Taxation and 2) Planning and Urban Form. This fellowship program provides an important link between the Lincoln Institute's educational mission and its research objectives by supporting scholars early in their careers. Please distribute or post this information in your academic department. Applications are due by email on or before 1 March 2010. Review of European Planning Systems and Housing Delivery
The National Housing and Planning Advice Unit has published a review of European Planning Systems by a research team lead by the Centre for Comparative Housing Research at De Montfort University, working with the Delft University of Technology. It demonstrates that there is no simple relationship between changes in house prices and changes in levels of housebuilding. The study also suggests that the evidence does not suggest that a more relaxed planning systems necessarily delivers higher levels of housebuilding. Read full report…
