Honorary Membership of the Institute recognises distinguished contributions to planning and the capacity to contribute to its future development and is by invitation of the President and Trustees.
In 2006, the Institute awarded honorary membership to Peter Clinch (Professor of Regional and Urban Planning and Jean Monnet Professor of European Environmental Policy, University College Dublin), Julie Cowens (formerly of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation), Paul Farmer (Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners) and Susan Owens (Professor of Environment and Policy, Cambridge University).
