Congratulations to Network Member, Professor Cecilia Wong
The Academy of Social Sciences has conferred the award of Academician on Professor Cecilia Wong of the School of Environment and Development at the University of Manchester for her significant contribution to the social sciences. The Academy is the main UK voice for the social sciences, representing both researchers and practitioners committed to knowledge development and transfer.

New website for UK data on housing and neighbourhoods
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) has launched a new website that provides a single source of information on key housing and neighbourhoods trends across the UK. The website is part of JRF’s Housing and Neighbourhoods Monitor project, which identifies the main issues affecting housing and neighbourhoods across the UK, comments on government performance on related targets and identifies emerging trends and concerns. They have also published the first in a series of related reports, giving a UK-wide overview of housing and neighbourhoods trends and analysing the interaction between them. Parliamentary Launch
The RTPI and Royal Institution hosted the launch of two new publications at the Houses of Parliament on 10 November: Planning Sustainable Cities - The UN-HABITAT Global Report on Human Settlements 2009 and Planning for Climate Change, edited by Simin Davoudi, Jenny Crawford and Abid Mehmood, both published by Earthscan.

The UK government has announced an ambitious programme to upgrade all our existing stock of 25 million homes by 2030, cutting at least 60% off our energy bills. UK-Ireland Planning Research Conference 2010, Essex, 7-9 April 2010
In April 2010, the annual Planning Research Conference will be hosted by the Department of the Built Environment at Anglia Ruskin University. An interdisciplinary mix of researchers, policymakers and practitioners will present and debate current issues in research concerned with the challenging and changing context of planning. Paper presentation abstracts should be submitted by 14th December. Further details on the agenda and theme are available on the conference website.
