10-Feb-10
This class of membership is suitable for legal practitioners with experience in planning law and who are not eligible to apply for Chartered Membership. Upon election to this class, members can use the designation LARTPI after their names.
To be eligible for Legal Associate candidates must:
(a) be a qualified legal practitioner (ie. solicitor or advocate or barrister);
(b) have at least three years' experience in planning law before attempting to undertake the project. At least a quarter of your time during these three years (approximately 300 hours pa) must be involved specifically in planning law;
(c )have completed an approved project.
The Institute has endeavoured to make the requirements for Legal Associate Membership compatible with those for selection to the Law Society’s Planning Panel. Therefore, an applicant who is already a member of the Law Society's Planning Panel can apply directly for Legal Associate Membership without completing a project.
You can find an application form and further guidance on completion of a project at the following link.
