Renewable Energy National Policy Statement
09-Nov-09
The Government has released its draft Renewable Energy National Policy Statement (EN-3) on the 9th November 2009.
The draft National Policy Statement highlights electricity generation from renewable sources of energy as an important element in the Government’s transition to a low-carbon economy. There are existing ambitious renewable energy targets in place and a significant increase in generation from large-scale renewable energy infrastructure is necessary.
This NPS covers the following types of nationally significant renewable energy infrastructure:
- Energy from biomass and/or waste (>50 megawatts (MW)
- Offshore wind (>100MW)
- Onshore wind (>50MW)
This NPS does not cover other types of renewable energy generation, such as schemes that generate electricity from tidal or wave power.
