Overarching Energy National Policy Statement
06-Nov-09
The Government has released its draft Overarching Energy National Policy Statement (EN-1) on the 9th November 2009.
This Overarching National Policy Statement for Energy (EN-1) is part of a suite of NPSs issued by the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. It sets out the Government’s policy for delivery of major energy infrastructure. A further five technology-specific NPSs for the energy sector cover: fossil fuel electricity generation (EN-2); renewable electricity generation (both onshore and offshore) (EN-3); gas supply infrastructure and gas and oil pipelines (EN-4); the electricity transmission and distribution network (EN-5); and, nuclear electricity generation (EN-6). These should be read in conjunction with this NPS where they are relevant to an application.
The generation of electricity from renewable sources other than wind, biomass or waste is not within the scope of this NPS. Insofar as this NPS relates to the development of new nuclear power stations, it only has effect in relation to applications for the development of new nuclear power stations on the sites listed in the Nuclear NPS.
