Outstanding Service Award
David Barraclough was presented with the RTPI’s Outstanding Service Award at the North East Regional Dinner in Durham on 16 October 2009. Making one of the RTPI’s most prestigious awards was RTPI President Martin Willey. Chair of RTPI NE Mike Mealing said at the Dinner “David has been serving the RTPI in the North East of England – and nationally – since before our Young Planners were born! At one time or another he has filled with distinction almost every role within the Region’s Committees and the Northern Branch before it, and he has always made his experience and good advice available to help his colleagues.”
David has been on the main committee of RTPI NE/Northern Branch for more than 38 years so far (continuously since 1971). At present serving as Honorary Secretary, he was Chair in 1979/80, and Treasurer three times, in the 1970’s, ‘80’s and ‘90’s. At national level he has, amongst other things, served both on Council (1979/80) and the General Assembly (since 2007), and worked for the RTPI as Planning Policy Officer, Co-ordinator and Manager between 1995 and 2006.
